Hi All,
First of all I’d like to thank one of the members (yellow and black F4) for giving me directions back to my hotel…. We chatted for a while at Second Cup on March 8th…
Hopefully, if things work our okay, I will be moving over there… and would love to hookup for some group rides.

Hey guys and gals, is there a forum that is dedicated to none motorcycle stuff? For example, where would I post a topic looking for members suggestions on places to live in VI? My move to VI looks pretty positive, and therefore would like to find out the places to avoid prior to getting an apartment.

You could post questions like that here. Just post them in the "Lounge" section. There are alot of people on this board and we live all over the city so I'm sure most people can try to give you some insight. As far as places to avoid.... Esquimalt, that's about it.

Rock Bay is especially beautiful this time of year.....was just down that way getting money off my Ho's. Good idea to scope some places. This city has it's share of Crack shacks.

Congratulations, I'm sure you'll love it here! I would definitely avoid living downtown. I've been living in the city center for about a year and it is a nightmare. Very loud, both traffic and screaming junkies, drunk idiots fighting below my balcony at 3am, dealers everywhere, and constantly barraged by panhandlers every time I leave the house. Last week I stepped out onto the top of the stairs at my "luxury heritage building," and there was a woman crouched over her friend, injecting something into her neck. So, avoid downtown Personally I enjoyed living in James Bay and Fairfield, Oak Bay is nice, too. Like Jason said, Esquimalt can be pretty seedy. Good luck!

Do you know what area you'll be working in? That might influence which area you want to live in.
I live near downtown (North Park/Fernwood) and commute out to Colwood to work, which is great because it's against the flow of most of the traffic. I just wouldn't want to do the drive the other direction on a regular basis, because the traffic coming from the Western Communities to downtown is pretty heavy and the highway gets pretty bottlenecked.

Thanks folks! This is exactly what I need to know. So best places are James Bay and Fairfield, Oak Bay and Rock Bay
Work place would be around Douglas and Pandora…
How safe are the bikes in apartment buildings? What is the average cost for parking downtown? (If I decide to ride to work.) I suppose I can always take the bus if it’s too costly.

Don't listen to Pee Wee, rock bay is literally just hookers. Douglas and Pandora is downtown (close to me, actually!) but James/Oak bay are very short commutes into downtown. From most parts of James Bay, you could probably just walk into town in about 20 minutes. When I looked at parking my bike in a Robbins lot downtown, they ran about $120/m.

My area is super close to that too, and yet isn't as cracky as Danny's neighborhood Most of Fernwood's not bad and close to town, and James Bay is nice, but even from as far away as Gordon Head (the neighborhood that surrounds UVic), you could still be downtown in 10-15 mins. It's probably just the Westshore commute I'd avoid, and the Malahat to up island. I know lots of other people that do both of those, but they both seem like frustrating commutes to downtown.

ROFLMAO Thanks Danny and motogirl!!! Pee Wee, I’m not ready to share my place with hookers… but thx for the heads up… now I know where to go when I need a date. Unfortunately I do not have the luxury of scoping the place before I get an apartment. So I will have to rely on you guys and gals

while rockbay is no go, Rockland is a good neighborhood. There are a few rental apartment on Oak bay ave, worth a look. Also, use google street view. Good Luck.

One to really avoid is View Towers. They have ads portraying it as a stylish, modern downtown highrise. In reality it's an enormous eyesore full of lowlifes and criminals. It's basically a halfway house. I think the address is 1147 Quadra Street (View @ Quadra.) I know a few people that have been duped into renting there only to show up and be very disappointed.
