Don Hatton

Duncan's Don Hatton will be arriving at Victoria airport 11:45 Thursday January 21 from his adventure in the 2010 Dakar Rally in Argentina.

Don Hatton has been forced to retire on Stage 3 of the 2010 Dakar race upon advice of race medical staff.

Don Hatton finished 69^th today, the first day of competition in the Dakar 2010 Rally in Argentina, up from his 74^th starting position.

Yesterday was the ceremonial start to the rally in Buenos Aires with a relatively short transit to the inland city of Colon. Don arrived late to the bivouac due to the extremely heavy traffic and after grabbing a less than spectacular dinner (2 chunks of meat and a sausage) he was off to prepare for the next days competition.

The day all Dakar racers fear. Scrutineering day. This year that day is December 29, 2009.

Scrutineering is where the organizers of the Dakar race go over everything with the racers. We mean everything. They review your documentation, your race vehicle, your support vehicle (if you have one), the registered members of your team. Everything. And if they find something that cannot be fixed by the time scrutineering closes you do not get to compete.

The Dakar is coming!

The 2010 Dakar Rally will be taking place January 1 - 17th, 2010!

Again this year, the rally will be held in South America, taking the racers on a gruelling route through Argentina and Chile.
